As many readers know, I patrol Hockey's Future message boards daily reading up on what fans around the NHL have to say about their teams.
Naturally I am a frequent visitor to the New York Rangers section of the site and the last few days there has been a subject which baffles me.
Of course the Rangers have a lot of depth up front. Right off the bat you can name some definite names who will make the team like Marian Gaborik, Vinny Prospal, Chris Drury, Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Christopher Higgins, Ales Kotalik, and Sean Avery. Then there are the names where you are really unsure of whether they will end up in New York or on call in Hartford. One of the names in that category seems to be Enver Lisin, the Russian winger who came over from the Phoenix Coyotes in the Lauri Korpikoski trade.
This preseason Lisin is trying to solidify his spot on the New York Rangers and has made a very good case. He is tied for the team lead in goals with Artem Anisimov this preseason with 3. He has consistently used his speed to help create offense and is not afraid to put the puck on net. With 10 shots on goal in three games Lisin is third on the team in that category.
The biggest problem for the Rangers last season was a lack of scoring talent. Lisin was brought in because of his offensive abilities but now some Ranger fans don't think that he will make the team? He has been one of the best players in camp.
Lisin does have some defensive deficiencies. His defensive play does need to improve but, watching the game vs Detroit Monday night, Lisin was seen on the penalty kill at one point. Head Coach John Tortorella wants his players to play a very aggressive game at both ends of the ice. Lisin is willing to learn that aspect because he wants to be in the NHL and knows if he does not this could be his last contract in North America.
But that is besides the point. Ranger fans want offense? You want potential game breaking talent up front besides Marian Gaborik? Then you want Enver Lisin. He will make the team and will be a twenty goal scorer if given his opportunity in the top six this season.
