The Rangers come into tonight 4-0 and will be looking to extend their winning streak. Last year, they went 7-0-1 vs the Devils, with the only game lost in a shootout on the final day of the regular season. After that, the Rangers beat the Devils in the first round of the playoffs in 5 games.
Of course, this rivalry may take a bit of a turn with so many new faces on the Rangers especially with the loss of Sean Avery but there are a couple of guys who could take his place in annoying Martin Brodeur and the rest of the New Jersey Devils. Aaron Voros will be standing in front of Marty all night he is on the ice. Ryan Callahan is a guy who is never afraid to back down from anyone. Colton Orr will obviously not hesitate to drop the mitts and Paul Mara's new found grit will certainly up the ante.
But the important thing here is for the Rangers to keep playing the way they have. They must put plenty of pressure on Marty and the Devils defense to force turnovers. The powerplay will have to be clicking tonight and the penalty kill will have to stay at the level it has been. Face offs will be key and the Rangers need to improve on that considering they are at a face off percentage of 47.2%. That number has to go up for the Rangers to have an effective offense and defense against a Devils team that relies on the other team making mistakes in all three zones.
The game will be on MSG tonight at 7pm so make sure you tune in. LETS GO RANGERS!
UPDATE 208: According to the beat writers, Dan Fritsche will be in today as Patrick Rissmiller has a swollen ankle, making him unfit to play tonight. Petr Prucha and Nigel Dawes will remain scratched.
