I woke up today to some very sad news. Paul Newman, actor and philanthropist had died from cancer at the age of 83. He was a Connecticut guy and a great actor.
His best role was that of Reggie Dunlop, player/coach of the rag tag Charlestown Chiefs of the Federal League in Slapshot. Any hockey fan will tell you that that is their favorite movie and Newman as Dunlop was absolutely superb. The whole movie is one giant laugh with him as the centerpiece surrounded by the Hanson Brothers and the rest of his teammates.
He will be sorely missed. Unfortunately I never got him to sign my Reggie Dunlop Chiefs jersey but I am glad I saw the movie. Everyone in Connecticut will miss Paul Newman.
The Rangers lost today. Not a good one despite Naslund and Zherdev scoring. They really need to get their act together and start scoring more than 2 goals a game. Hopefully this trip to Europe will get them positively thinking and get them better chemistry. Only one week away from the beginning of the regular season and less than 2 weeks until opening night at MSG. So close yet so far.
